Something You May Not Know About Veterans Day

Hunger impacts veterans and military families more than you think!

No one who bravely served this country, sacrificing their time and risking their lives, should ever have to struggle to provide food for their own family. However, the harsh reality is that many veterans, active-duty service members, and military families are facing this very challenge. Astonishingly, statistics reveal that 1 in 9 working-age veterans find themselves in food-insecure households, while an alarming 1 in 4 active-duty service members experienced food insecurity in the tumultuous year of 2020.

In the specific service area covered by the Grace Care Center, encompassing Hamilton County, northern Marion County, and eastern Madison County, there are approximately 39,000 veterans. Among these courageous individuals, half are 65 years of age or older, having devoted a significant portion of their lives to serving their country. Furthermore, 35% of these veterans valiantly served during the demanding and tumultuous Vietnam War. This Veterans Day, it is imperative that we pay our respects to those who have selflessly served our nation and find it within us to extend our support to those who are in need of the assistance.
